The Denver Broncos’ 2022 season was a case study in disappointment.

On paper, Denver is a tempting proposition. It has a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in Wilson, a Super Bowl-winning head coach in Payton, and a talented defense.
However, Wilson is coming off a down year in which he threw 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He’s also learning a new system, which takes time.
While Denver is taking the proper steps to improve, this won’t be a quick fix.

The Broncos’ odds of winning the AFC Championship in 2023 appear poorly priced.
Denver last reached the playoffs in 2015, when a dominant defense and an aging Peyton Manning led them to a Super Bowl victory.
While Denver’s defense was responsible for keeping the team in games last season, this unit doesn’t have the talent that the 2015 roster did.
The recent signing of Frank Clark should help fill the pass-rushing void created by the Bradley Chubb trade, but we saw last season that the Broncos couldn’t get by on defense alone.

Denver won five straight division titles from 2011-2015, but Andy Reid and the Chiefs have since dominated the division.
While the Broncos could be more competitive this season, the Chargers are the more likely threat to Kansas City for the division crown.

While one may be tempted to bet on the Broncos’ +200 odds to make the NFL playoffs, it’s much more likely that Denver will miss out on the postseason again in 2023.
The Broncos haven’t made the playoffs since 2015 and have posted a winning record just once in the past seven seasons.
The AFC is a highly competitive conference and is only getting deeper as teams like the Jets, now with Aaron Rodgers, and Ravens, who re-signed Lamar Jackson, make moves to become legitimate threats to the established powers.
