The long wait for football is nearly over.
Although the NFL Week 1 schedule and betting lines for all 16 games have been available for some time, the anticipation for the season’s opening week only grows as we get closer to kickoff.
While some sharps have been targeting Week 1 lines throughout the offseason, most sports bettors will place their wagers in the days before Thursday’s NFL Kickoff Game between the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions.
That influx of money into the NFL betting markets could see some of these early lines shift, so remember to shop around for the best number before making your bets.

NFL Week 1 Betting Trends
NFL Week 1 is typically one of the most unpredictable slates all season.
That makes sense since bettors don’t have much data to consider. It’s hard to get a feel for the positive or negative impact of a team’s offseason moves from preseason, and it’s easy to buy into various narratives heading into Week 1.
To get a better sense of how to attack the slate, here are some general Week 1 betting trends from the 2022 season:
- Favorites were 10-5-1 straight up.
- Home teams were 6-9-1 straight up but 9-7 against the spread.
- Home favorites were 4-3 ATS, while home underdogs went 5-4.
- Unders ruled the week, going 11-5.
